Club vs. PIAA Athletics
In addition to interscholastic athletic opportunities, various club programs are available to students. While these activities are not governed by the PIAA, students are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Please note that although these clubs and organizations operate outside of PIAA jurisdiction, individual programs may establish and enforce their own specific participation requirements. -
Registration
Students must complete the district's athletic registration process before participating in any tryout, practice or contest. Registration includes completion of all required PIAA and district forms through the district's athletic registration platform.
Required Forms
All required eligibility, medical and consent forms must be completed before participation begins. Incomplete paperwork may delay or prevent participation.
Physical Examinations
A current PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation is required each school year. Students participating in additional sports during the same school year must complete any required PIAA recertification forms.
Activity Fees
The student activity fee established by the Exeter Township School District Board of School Directors was created to assist in offsetting some of the costs associated with the implementation of Exeter Township School District’s extracurricular programs in Grades 7-12, such as coach/advisor stipends, transportation and equipment related to extracurricular activities. This fee is $100 per school year for SHS athletes and $80 per year for JHS athletes, and covers an unlimited number of sports and activities. The activity fee is due at the start of the season/activity.
We believe in the benefit of extracurricular activities for any and all students interested. As such, we encourage student participation and do not want anything--financial hardship or otherwise--to impact a student’s ability to participate. If you have any questions regarding the activity fee and payment process, please contact the Senior High School office at (610) 779-3060, or the Athletic Department in the Senior High School at (610) 779-7949, or you may submit a waiver request by downloading the form from our website.
Participation of Students from Charter Schools, Homeschool or Co-Ops
The expectations and guidelines in this handbook cover both students in the Exeter Township School District, as well as homeschooled, charter/cybercharter and students from cooperative agreements from other districts who play for Exeter Township.
Secondary students who live in the Exeter Township School District and attend a charter school or are homeschooled shall be eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics, as are students who live in other districts who have a cooperative agreement with Exeter. Each student shall be required to follow the rules of the team, the policies of the Exeter Township School District and the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) in relation to their participation. The charter school and co-op district will be assessed a fee for each of its students electing to participate in an Exeter sponsored interscholastic sport.
- Procedures and Responsibilities
Directors/Parents of Charter School students who wish to have their children participate in interscholastic athletics within the school district should reference Policy #140.1. Parents of homeschooled students who wish to have their children participate in interscholastic athletics within the school district should reference Policy #137.1 and Policy #137.2. Parents of students who attend schools with cooperative agreements with Exeter should follow the registration guidelines of their home district. All students (homeschool, charter/cyber charter and co-op) should then follow the registration steps to enroll through Exeter’s platform, including paying the activity fee.

Contest and Practice Eligibility
Student-athletes must maintain academic, attendance and disciplinary eligibility throughout the season.
Academic Eligibility
Success in athletics begins in the classroom. Student-athletes must meet all PIAA eligibility requirements as well as any additional academic standards established by Exeter Township School District. Students who become academically ineligible may not participate until eligibility has been restored. Student-athletes are responsible for completing classroom assignments. All work shall be made up at the direction of the teacher.- Academic Status
A student must maintain a full-time curriculum. The student must maintain the academic statuses below to be eligible for participation in interscholastic athletics. Exeter Township School District academic eligibility requirements exceed those of the PIAA. - Marking Period Eligibility
Academic standing is monitored on a weekly basis during the course of a marking period. All work that is graded for the week will be included in the eligibility report. The eligibility report is completed on the last day of the week which is typically on Fridays at 3PM. For example, if school is not in session on Friday, the eligibility report will be run on Thursday at 3PM. Any student-athlete who is failing two (2) or more credits (59% or lower) during the course of a week will be ineligible. If a student is ineligible, he or she will be ineligible to practice or participate in athletic contests for the following week, a period of seven days, beginning Sunday and ending Saturday. In addition, a student who is ineligible may not attend away competitions. - End of a Marking Period

Each student-athlete who is failing two (2) or more credits (59% or lower) during the course of a marking period will be ineligible. Eligibility for the 1st Marking Period of the new school year is based on the previous school year’s final credits. If the student-athlete does not meet this requirement he or she will remain eligible to practice but ineligible to participate in athletic contests until after the 15th school day of the next grading period beginning on the first day that report cards are issued. In addition, a student who is ineligible may not attend away competitions.
